China Telecom to Invest 40 Billion RMB in 4G Deployment in 2014

China Telecom officially launched its 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) services in 16 cities in China, including Shanghai, Xi'an, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Nanjing, Hefei, Chongqing, Shenzhen, Nanchang, Nanning, and Lanzhou, according to the company's press release on July 15. The company is rapidly building and optimizing its 4G networks, particularly to improve indoor coverage at public areas, like business buildings, subway stations, and airports. The operator plans to spend over 40 billion RMB (US$6.4 billion, US$1=6.2047 RMB) on the construction of 4G networks in 2014, with continuous investments in following years. The Chinese government aims to increase 3G and 4G coverage to 85% by 2020, from 25% in 2013.
